Hotel Lunata Our arrival in Cancun began with a different hotel that was truly disheartening; it was just too bad to commit to staying in. We went on Booking, and saw Hotel Lunata as an happy option, and decided to book it. We walked down 5th, found the hotel, and were greeted by a lovely entryway, and courtyard. We stepped up to reception, and were welcomed by Michelle, who is the absolute best representative a hotel could ever ask for. We were sweaty, hot, and were frazzled from the frustration of our other (disgusting) reserved hotel. She met us with charm, understanding, and calm. We explained what had happened, and asked if we could see the room, as we were now leery of all rooms in Cancun -LOL. We were pretty sure we were going to like it, as the courtyard to the hotel is wonderful. Well, we were NOT disappointed! The entire place has an old-world charm to it without being "old." Traditional settings, with comfort and ease at its heart. We booked the two-double-bed room called "Europa" (all the rooms in the hotel had names like this. "Bianca" or "Ophelia" as an example), and it was decorated in hacienda-style, but with modern comfort in mind. The air con was superb, as was the WiFi. It was also clean as can be. Our room was on the courtyard side, which was perfect, as you could walk in from the 5th avenue hustle and bustle (PLENTY of hustle), and not hear a thing. The double-sliders on the lovely balcony helped that quite a bit. We would imagine if you want more connection to the 5th Avenue vibe, booking a room on that side would be great, as you could stand on your balcony, and immerse yourself in the action a bit more. The beds are FIRM -which we both love, and the shower and bathroom were terrific. There is also a close-drying line in the shower, and soap and shampoo provided. The hotel has hot/cold water dispensers dotted around the grounds, and a lite breakfast served in the morning.

This was my 4th visit to Hotel Lunata in Playa del Carmen since 2002. On the surface, very little has changed over the years. In this case, that is a very good thing! Of course there has been some modernization in that time, such as very good WiFi for each room, however the warm and inviting room design, the friendly staff and the overall impression the hotel leaves have all not changed. We again had a very pleasant visit and were sad to leave. The breakfast is very basic with some cereals, tea, coffee and toast. It’s enough to get you going into the day, but it’s not a feast and is not the main focus of this boutique hotel. It is self-service in the Lunata natural garden, just like it was in 2002. We brought some fruits from the market and the staff offered to peel and cut the fruit for us. Fantastic service.

Loved it here. Spacious rooms, beds were so comfy and it's close to shopping, the beach and the ferries to Cozumel. I initially stayed in a room facing 5th avenue which I later realized was a bad idea because Im not a great sleeper and need quiet. Luckily the staff of Hotel Lunata had a cancellation and was able to move me to a garden-facing room which was so much quieter and I slept great. If they hadn't had a garden room available, they were willing to refund me if I wanted to move to another hotel which I appreciate. I'd stay here again, but only in a garden facing room . The rooms and the hotel truly are lovely, it's a very nice place to stay!

Hotel Lunata is an awesome retreat in the bustling 5th Avenue area of Playa del Carmen. We continue to return and stay here because of the wonderful staff and the colorful and relaxing Mexican rooms. Michel, Niki, Ivan and Carlos (who wheeled our luggage to the bus station) are so friendly! The location is great and near our favorite restaurants. Because we come from the airport by bus (a great deal!) it's a short walk to the hotel. The staff is amazing and so helpful with luggage and questions in general. Love this place!

Really can't say enough good things about this place. Would definitely stay here again. Staff was more than helpful. Michelle particularly offered so much in her recommendations. It seems she could read our moods particularly as to what we wanted to eat. The accommodations were clean and visually appealing. Location was great for walkability to everywhere we wanted to go, including the beach, scuba, local restaurants with good prices, and of course the shopping avenue.
